Paul Kenton’s style has evolved over the past ten years into a free-flowing fusion of various media, capturing the essence of the environment rather than the specific details of a location. Like the Impressionist painters before him, Kenton strives for his paintings to create a mood, evoke a feeling or reflect a myriad of emotions; with free shapes, mixed media, dripped lines and colour.

Citing the early work of Monet as a great influence on his art, Kenton focuses on the accurate depiction of light in his work; often painting similar scenes at different times of the day, from a hot dusky evening over Westminster through to a rainy Parisian evening.

Exploring mood and feelings is the backbone of Kenton’s creations, painting places he has visited throughout his life; Kenton tries to relive his feelings and memories of those cities in motion and portrays them on canvas. Kenton’s technique is extremely free and unplanned, forgoing sketching and planning in favour of the immediacy of diving into the heart of the painting.

‘Cities in Motion’ showcases Kenton at his very best.
